Seward High School has some strong student leadership and this was evident recently, as two students from Seward High were recently elected to a state office or board at their local school organization’s state conference. SHS Sophomore Landan Waegli was elected to the State Skills USA State Officer Board and SHS Jena Eberspacher was elected State President of the State Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at their conference. The students both recently attended the weekly Seward Rotary Club meeting and were introduced and congratulated. They were introduced by Rotarians Senator Mark Kolterman and Greg Zabka and presented with the special Rotary Club banners.
Waegli, the son of Greg and Joni Waegli, was recently elected to be a State Board Member and officer for the State’s Skills, USA. He and the other elected board members will decide on the officer positions when then gather for their orientation meeting. His advisor in Kurt Holliday, one of the vocational education teachers at Seward High. He will be attending the National Skills USA Conference in Atlanta this summer.
Eberspacher, a SHS Junior, is the daughter of Jill and John Eberspacher. She was elected the State FBLA President at their State FBLA Conference and will be attending the National Conference in Orlando in the summer as well. Her school advisor is Wade Miller, who teachers in the SHS Business Department.
The annual “My Favorite Tree” art contest was held once again in conjunction with Seward's annual Arbor Day celebration, which was held on April 26th at the Nebraska National Guard Museum in celebration of the museum's 10th anniversary.
The Grand Prize winner was McKenzie Wobken, a Fourth Grader at St. Vincent de Paul Elementary School in Seward. Her teacher is Mrs. Dorothy Marshall. Other Fourth Grade finalists were Amber Troyer, Seward Elementary; Andy Brecka, Seward Elementary; Mason Delapaz, Seward Elementary; Paisley Petersen, Seward Elementary; and Grant Brashear, St. John Lutheran Elementary. The local judge was Joyce Jacksonick, an art major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Each student won a cash prize from the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club and a special anniversary coin from the Nebraska National Guard Museum.
This is the 52nd annual “My Favorite Tree” art contest in Seward sponsored by the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club. Seward Rotary Club is a proud participant in the community's annual Arbor Day celebration. Seward is an official "Tree City USA" recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
Seward Rotary Club recently contributed to Seward Memorial Library's Shelf Improvement Project, which will provide more shelves in the library’s children sections. Club President Ben Spirk presented the contribution at an April meeting to John Hughes, President of Seward Library Foundation, and Becky Baker, Library Director
The Seward Rotary Club held its annual J. Don Miller Memorial Kite Flying Contest at Plum Creek Park in Seward on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Free and open to everyone to enter, the event again was highlighted by a variety of awards and trophies presented to all participants.
First Place in the Adult Division was presented to Ben Hartmann of Seward. First Place in the Youth Division went in a tie to twins Caric and Landon Hindmand of Lincoln. Rotarian Clark Kolterman once again served as the event judge.
The late J Don Miller of Seward was a longtime Seward Rotarian and a kite enthusiast. In recognition of his contributions to the Club, Seward Rotary established this event in his honor many years ago.
Seward Rotary Club again participated in Memorial Health Care System's annual Health Care Fair on April 3, 2024. Rotarians Doug Gremel, Andy Hartmann, Clark Kolterman, Mark Kolterman, Jon Kruse, and Max Wake staffed the Club's booth, which shared information about Rotary International's effort to End Polio Now, funded through the Polio Plus program.
