A Year in Seward

Since August 2018, Baki Terzic of Zurich, Switzerland has been living with Rotarians Brady and Jill Johnson and their family as a foreign exchange student. She will share her reflections and reactions to her experiences, studies at Seward High School, and time in our community. We'll also be joined by Baki's parents for what promises to be a program that causes us to see our community from a different perspective.

"The Better Half"

During 2017, Omaha World-Herald's husband and wife duo, columnist Matthew Hansen, a native of Red Cloud, and food critic Sarah Baker Hansen, a native Omahan, traveled around Nebraska and encountered the people, places, and foods across our state that make this the Good Life. They shared their adventures in a series of newspaper columns (http://www.omaha.com/living/the-better-half/) and a book entitled "The Better Half."

Sarah and Matthew will share some of their Nebraska adventures and discoveries at Seward Rotary on Wednesday, June 20th. Make plans now to join Seward Rotary for what promises to be an informative, interesting, and delightful presentation, well told. The public is welcome, lunch is $7.50 for non-Rotarians.

Expanding Access to the Justice System
Expanding Access to the Justice System

According to American Bar Association research, 85% of the public's legal needs go unmet. There are many factors for this, including income and location - did you know that 12 of Nebraska's 93 counties have no attorneys? The Nebraska State Bar Association is attempting to expand access to Nebraska's justice system through a variety of initiatives, including its Volunteer Lawyers Project and Rural Practice Initiative. Liz Neeley, Executive Director of the NSBA and a Sewardite, will discuss this important need and the efforts underway to ensure "equality before the law" for Nebraskans.
