FROM THE PRESIDENT
Anita previews this month's programs as we focus on literacy and education, the District Governor's visit, a Rotary-Kiwanis partnership, and other happenings in this month's message.
Looking Back
Rotarian Mark Kolterman recently found this picture circa 1935 of Seward Rotarians, including Clark and his grandfather, attending a Rotary conference in Rapid City, South Dakota.  If you have pictures from our Club's past, let Kurth Brashear know and they'll be featured in a future issue of the Mower.

Which Generation Are You?
Mark Kolterman's picture of his grandfather at a Rotary conference in the 1930s begs a question.

Sell Those Grocery Grab Tickets!
Seward Rotarians, keep selling your Grocery Grab tickets and bring the sole ones to a September meeting.  Remember that local food providers like the Concordia University student food pantry, Blue Valley, Food Net, and Christ's Cupboard can be written on the tickets to provide them a chance to shop or to win a Pac N Save gift card.  Proceeds will go first to this year's designated project, the Civil War Exhibit at the Nebraska National Guard Museum, with remaining funds going towards our 100th Anniversary project.  Thanks for selling your tickets for a good cause!

Invite Someone to Rotary
There's a lot already in the works for our Club's 100th Anniversary Year and the excitement is building.  Wouldn't it be great to capitalize on it by growing our Club?

According to one survey of Rotarians, 85% joined their current club because someone invited them.  So who do you know that would make a great Rotarian?  Now that you've thought of them, invite them to join you at one of our weekly meetings - perhaps Gov. Pillen's visit on August 28th - and introduce them to your fellow Rotarians.  After that, well, you joined, didn't you?
Register for Gov. Pillen's Visit
Gov. Jim Pillen will be speaking to our Club at our August 28th meeting.  Seward Rotarians, please remember to register by August 21 to help with the food count.  If you are bringing a guest, please register them as well.
The Essential Volunteers
Seward Rotary's fun-filled contest eating apple pie and blowing bubbles only happen thanks to many volunteers.

Year after year, Jocelyn Grey, Linda Kolterman, Dixie Zabka, and Riley Nuttleman "officially” cut, weigh, and serve the dozens of pie slices for the apple pie eating contest.  They tirelessly work in the hot, very small side room of the bandshell and our Club thanks them for their work.

Many Seward Rotarians also assist with the contests as judges, servers, scribe, and emcee.  Thank you to all our Rotarians who ensure these highlights of the 4th happen each year!
Nebraska's Tourism Program
John Ricks, State Tourism Director, was the featured speaker at the July 10 Seward Rotary Club meeting.  Rotarians were joined by members of the Seward County Visitors Bureau and Seward Arts Council to hear an assessment of Nebraska's tourism effort.
