Osten Observatory

One of the hidden gems in our community is Concordia University's Osten Observatory. Dedicated in 2002, the observatory is located on the northeast corner of the university's campus off Hillcrest Drive. Dr. Robert Hermann, professor of physics, will provide an overview of the 16 inch computer controlled telescope, how the university uses it, and opportunities for the community to enjoy this wonderful tool to enjoy the night sky. |

From Cornrows to Hedgerows

This week's meeting will be held at the Nebraska National Guard Museum to allow a special program - a first look at the museum's much anticipated "From Cornrows to Hedgerows" exhibit that dramatically depicts the Battle of St. Lo, France, where more than 50 Nebraskans lost their lives freeing Europe from the grips of tyranny. Seward Rotary Club is proud to be a sponsor of this important exhibit that honors those who provided the ultimate example of "service above self," giving their lives in the defense of our nation. This will be a great way to kick off our new Rotary year. See you there, Rotarians! |

Seward Rotary Club's annual apple pie eating and bubble gum contests, part of our community's celebration of America's Independence Day, are again being held at the Seward Bandshell. Pie and gum is provided, there is no cost, and no pre-registration is necessary. Did we mention these are the state championships? We look forward to seeing you there! |

Seward Rotary Club will once again crown 2019's Miss Independence and Mr. Firecracker, and recognize their runner ups, who will then read their winning essays on "Why I like living in Seward." The crowning and presentation will be held at the Seward Bandshell after the Mayor's Welcome at 6:00 p.m. |

Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival

Dylan Teut, director of the Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival will share the impact the festival has on thousands of students and their teachers each year. The festival just wrapped up it's 24th year and is well into planning for the 25th anniversary. Each year Concordia plays host to numerous authors and illustrators representing diverse backgrounds and drawing participants from across the state. |

While Concordia University's Dunklau Center for Science, Math and Business will not be fully completed until December, its new construction wing is open and hosting the university's natural and agricultural science courses. Concordia President, and Seward Rotarian, Brian Friedrich and his colleagues will give our Club an inside look at this latest addition to Concordia's campus and our community. Note that this meeting will be held at the Dunklau Center. |

If you've been thinking about making updates to your estate plans or doing them for the first time, this program could be helpful in identifying the things you may want to consider. |
