Kyle Broderick, SHS Alum and the son of Lynnette and Jack Broderick of Seward, was the featured program at the April 18, 2018 Seward Rotary Club meeting at the Jones National Bank and Trust Auditorium, following the fellowship and noon luncheon. He was introduced by Rotarian Pastor Michael Meyer of Seward.

He is a member of the UNL Institute of Ag and Natural Resources in the Dept. of Plant Pathology.  

He has a Master’s Degree from UNL and is the Coordinator of the UNL Plant and Pesticide Clinic and assists with the Backyard Farmer program.  The theme of his presentation was “Plants Get Sick!”

He spoke on the Plant Pathogens and viruses, bacteria and fungi in the various Ag and Landscape plants in the area.  Ag questions amounts to about 85% of his work and Landscape questions amounts to 15% of his workload.  

They support the entire state and have a $15 fee for each inquiry.  He discussed the concept of “Soil Microbial Diversity” and spoke on the five levels that compose the breakdown of just one cup of soil.
