It was a cool and windy day for the Seward Rotary’s Annual Kite Flying Contest on April 28 th , 2019, held
at the Plum Creek Soccer Fields at 2:00. The event was free and open to the public and sponsored by
the Seward Rotary Club and the Concordia University Rotaract Club.
It was a cool and windy day for the Seward Rotary’s Annual Kite Flying Contest on April 28 th , 2019, held
at the Plum Creek Soccer Fields at 2:00. The event was free and open to the public and sponsored by the Seward Rotary Club and the Concordia University Rotaract Club.
 
Everyone was invited to fly their kites for 30 minutes with awards presented after the first 30 minutes of flights. Rotary Club member Clark Kolterman, assisted by Rotarian Shelly Nitz, presented trophy awards, judged by Rotaract Member Jacob (J C) Cornelio and Rotarian Russ Sommerfeld.

Winners of the annual contest included Presley Nitz-“Most Pink Kite,” Cash Nitz-“Youngest Kite Flyer,” Ava Nitz-“Wildest Kite,” Lea Nitz-“Most Colorful Kite,” Holly Venetis-“First Kite Up,” Caleb Venetis-“Highest Kite,” Landon Hindmand-“Fastest Kite,” Caric Hindmand-“Longest Tail,” Dick Miers-“Oldest Flyer-Biggest Kite,” Andy Cornelio-“Most Patient,” and Lena Weber-“Most Patriotic-Most Unique!”
 
Trophies were presented to all the awardees, compliments of the Seward Rotary Club. Local Concordia Rotaract members assisted the participants with kite problems.

The annual Kite Contest sponsored by the Seward Rotary has been in existence for over 30 years, first started by the late Rotarian J. Don Miller of Seward. He would first have a workshop on making kites and then they participants were fly them. Rotarians participating in this year’s event included Russ Sommerfeld, Clark Kolterman, Shelly Nitz and Concordia Rotaract members JC Cornelio and Andy Cornelio.
