Assisting in the special event were preschool children from the Seward Academy-neighbors to the
Nebraska National Guard Museum, who assisted in the planting and celebration of Arbor Day.

Seward Rotarians involved in the very informal tree planting ceremony included Greg Butcher-City of
Seward Administrator, who addressed the group and children on the history of Arbor Day and the value
of trees, Ken Schmieding-also a Seward County Commissioner and member of the Seward Tree Board,
Alan Baldwin, Seward Chief of Police and Seward Rotary Club President Todd LaVelle. Executive Director
of the Nebraska National Guard Museum, represented the museum and area veterans.

Tree planting is a key project of Rotary International, with an emphasis for each of the Rotary Clubs to
be encouraged to plant trees and promote the environment.
