Rotary helps the Village of Utica prepare for future storms with disaster relief grant
After the June wind and hail storm, which knocked out electricity for three days within the Village of Utica, the village decided to invest in a new community generator for the community auditorium.  Seeking to help its fellow Seward County residents, Seward Rotary Club applied for a Disaster Grant from the Rotary District 5650 Disaster Relief Fund to help fund the purchase of a generator for the community to ensure essential services can be maintained in case the electricity is again knocked out.

Rotary District 5650 acted favorably on the grant request, awarding a grant of $5,000 to assist with the purchase of the generator, which costs $20,000.  Representatives from the Village of Utica attended the Seward Rotary Club meeting on July 27th to accept the check from Seward Rotary Club and the Rotary District 5650 Disaster Fund.  Representing Utica at the meeting were Jim Swanson, Village Board Chair; Rita Maier, Village Clerk; and Sharon Powell, Village Trustee.  Seward President Zane Francescato presented the check on behalf of the Club.
