On June 22nd, State Sen. Mike McDonnell of Omaha spoke to Seward Rotary Club about the Unicameral's "STARWARS" and "Shovel Ready" programs and exciting news about the Seward Wellness Center project was announced.
State Sen. Mike McDonnell (Omaha) was the featured speaker at the Seward Rotary Club meeting on June 22 at Jones Bank.  Sen. McDonnell spoke about the Nebraska Legislature’s Statewide Tourism and Recreational Water Access and Resource Sustainability (STAR WARS) project, as well as the state's “Shovel Ready” matching grant program. 
 
During his remarks, Sen. McDonnell announced that the City of Seward Wellness Center project has been approved for a $5,000,000 “Shovel Ready” Grant.  Combined with $6.2 million in local gifts and pledges and the recently approved dedicated sales tax, the Wellness Center planning committee has reached its initial goal.  Volunteer leader Jana Hughes expressed appreciation for grant decision and noted that other grant applications are pending for the project.  During the meeting, Seward Rotary Club presented a check to fulfill its pledge of support for the project.
