Seward Rotary has contributed to the repair and preservation of the historic 1915 School House at the Seward County Historical Society Museum in Goehner
Seward Rotary Club recently donated $3,668.97 to the Seward County Historical Society Museum to assist in the repair and preservation of the 1915 historic, one room District 64 school house from Pleasant Dale, now located and featured on the grounds of the Seward County Historical Society Museum.  The presentation of the check was made at the Club's luncheon meeting on December 28, 2022, which will be used to provide new window frame replacements and repaint the building.

The historic school house is filled with one room school memorabilia and historic educational materials. It is used for tours, open when the museum is open and hosts the annual student Statehood program every March in the school house as one of the educational “stations” with area Fourth Graders.

The Seward Rotary Club raised their funds through a recent “Grocery Grab,” selling raffle tickets for the opportunity to “grab” as many groceries as possible in a two minute period of time. The winning ticket was held by the Seward Food Net Program.  The project was awarded a District 5650 Grant for $1500 and that was matched and surpassed by the Rotary Club sales of raffle tickets.

A new roof for the school house was also funded in part by the Seward County Visitor’s Bureau, through their “Bricks and Mortar” tourism grants for tourism entities.  The Seward County Historical Society received a matching grant of $2500 from the SCVB to assist in funding the repairs on the roof of the school house.

The mission of the Seward County Historical Society Museum, a 501(c)(3) public charity, is to preserve and interpret the unique history of Seward County for current and future generations, to encourage curiosity and discovery of the past, to cultivate and foster a sense of community and to bring people together through individual and county history.  Admission to the museum is free, however donations are welcome to assist with the many expenses generated by the facility.
