Despite having to be rescheduled, the J. Don Miller Memorial Kite Flying Event once again delighted children of all ages
The Seward Rotary Club’s annual Kite Flying Contest was almost canceled or postponed again this week due to the extremely high winds at the Plum Creek Soccer fields on Sunday, May 1st, but the participants at the 2:00 event were determined to proceed and eventually all the kites were in the air and flying!

The annual event is sponsored by the Seward Rotary Club and open to all ages in the community at no charge.  Trophies are awarded to the winning participants.  Judges for the event were local members of the Seward Rotary Club including Rotarians Zane Fracescato, Dr. Russ Sommerfeld and Clark Kolterman .  The contest was co-chaired by Clark Kolterman and Zane Fancescato.

The contest is dedicated to the late Rotarian and Seward community kite enthusiast, J. Don Miller. For many years, through the Rotary club, Miller taught and made many homemade kites for area youth in special Kite Making Workshops, and then chaired the local contest for kite flyers for several decades.
