Longtime Rotarian of the Seward Rotary Club, Ken L Schmieding has not missed a meeting in over 45 years of membership of the Seward Rotary Club. He was recognized and honored by the Seward Rotary Club for his dedication, loyalty and service to the Seward Rotary Club and Rotary International. He attended the meeting, along with his wife Cheryl, who was also recognized.

Schmieding was presented with the J. Don Miller Seward Rotary Club Perfect Attendance award- and his name was engraved (again) on the memorial plaque for his 45 years of perfect attendance for attending a Rotary Club meeting every week! If he was unable to attend a Rotary meeting in Seward, he would seek out another Rotary Club to visit and “make-up” the missed meeting.

The J. Donald Miller Seward Rotary Club Perfect Attendance award was donated to the Seward Rotary Club by the family of Don Miller-a longtime, loyal Rotarian –who, like Schmieding, believed in perfect attendance at Rotary Club meetings. When he passed away, the Miller family presented the award/plaque to the Seward Rotary to honor those members with perfect attendance. Ironically, J. Don Miller and Ken Schmieding joined Rotary approximately the same time and competed with perfect attendance.

Ken commented on his years of membership and the 45 years of perfect attendance. He thanked his sponsor to Seward Rotary-Chuck Matzke, who was at the Jones Bank in Seward at the time. He reminisced on a variety of experiences and happenings during his time with Rotary.

Schmieding joined the Seward Rotary on March 1, 1975 and has enjoyed perfect attendance at the Rotary meeting for 45 years and four months! He credited the help of his wife Cheryl, who recognized that he valued his attendance and she would often be in the car, waiting for the meeting to conclude, so they could make an afternoon appointment.

Schmieding has served as a President of the Seward Rotary Club, a past District Governor Representative and led a six week tour of South America and Argentina with a team of young professionals with Rotary Group Study Exchange. He and his wife Cheryl officially attended the Rotary International Convention in Kansas City. He has served in a variety of Seward Rotary’s volunteer Chairmanships, and is a longtime co-chair of the membership committee. He is a Paul Harris Fellow-the highest honor of the Rotary International Foundation.

“I have enjoyed every minute of my Rotary Club membership and the interaction of our members – with some of my best Friends evolving as a result of our Rotary Club affiliation.” Stated Schmieding. “I must thank my wife, Cheryl, who has assisted and helped me continue this perfect attendance goal. I appreciate this honor and look forward to my 50 fifty years of perfect attendance in 2025, when the Seward Rotary Club celebrates the club’s Centennial year! That will be a fun party!”
