The Seward Rotary Club “Zoomed In” on Seward High senior, Blair Souchek who was selected the April Youth Rotarian of the Month and honored at the April 15 TH ZOOM Rotary Club meeting at the Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon noon hour meeting. The Seward Rotary Club “Zoomed In” on Seward High senior, Blair Souchek who was selected the April Youth Rotarian of the Month and honored at the April 15 TH ZOOM Rotary Club meeting at the Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon noon hour meeting. She was introduced by Rotarian Matt Dominy. She is the daughter of Rhonda and Russell Souchek of Seward.
 
Blair is an honor student and has made the Honor Roll at SHS almost every quarter. She has been the recipient of many SHS P.R.I.D.E. Awards, nominated by the SHS Faculty for her kindness and insight.
 
She is a dedicated student to a variety of interests at SHS, however her first love is music. Blair is a loyal, four year member of the SHS Instrumental program. She is a member of the SHS Marching Band, and served as both a section band leader and the Brass Captain for the SHS Marching Bluejays! Besides the Marching Band, Blair is a longtime member of the SHS Jazz Band, Swing Band for the Show Choir, Wind Ensemble, Pep Band and Symphonic Band. She earned a varsity letter in band.
 
Blair has participated in three of the Concordia University Musical Arts Day, was selected for the Underclassman Honor Band in 2017 and the Doane Honor Band for all four years of her High School career. She was selected twice for the Central Conference Honor Band as well. She received top superior ratings at the District Music Contest with her trombone quartet, along with Superior ratings with all of her solos at District too.
 
Blair participated in the VFW “Voice of Democracy” speech contest and several of the competitions with the Education Division of the Nebraska State Fair over the years. She also assisted with the One Act plays, serving as a backstage manager.
 
She is very active in two of the national, major service organizations at SHS-Family Community Career Leaders of America (FCCLA) and the SHS Key Club. In the FCCLA she is a member of the Board and served her sophomore year as the Treasurer. She is also very active in the SHS Key Club and a leader with the annual International Fair they sponsor each year. She is a leader on the SHS Soccer team, beginning her soccer career as the student manager and now a full-fledged member of the team. Her hobbies include running, biking and playing her trombone and baritone.
 
Blair is a member of the Living Word Lutheran Church in Seward.
 
Blair has been employed by Sloup/Thorell Detasseling for two summers and now is employed by Seward Memorial Health Care in the Memorial Hospital kitchen.
 
Her “Service Above Self” community service includes her loyal membership in the Seward Municipal Band, along with hosting many community service activities with both the SHS FCCLA and SHS Key Club. She is a longtime volunteer in the SHS Concession stand and volunteers with the Living Word Lutheran Church as an assistant Sunday School teacher. She also is a volunteer with the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward.
 
She plans to attend Doane University and have a double major in History Education and Social Sciences, eventually hoping to become a post –secondary History professor. 
 
Blair was presented with a Book Scholarship from the Seward Rotary Club and will again be honored and thanked in May at the SHS Senior Honors Night which will be featured “on line.” At that time, the Seward Rotary Club will announce the Seward Youth Rotarian of the Year and presented that student with the Youth Rotarian of the Year Scholarship. One Youth Rotarian is selected every month by the Seward Rotary Club to an SHS Senior, with the application available in the SHS Counselor’s office.
