Events

The Civic Center Commission announced this past fall that planning was underway for a multi-million dollar renovation of the facility.  Rotarian Mark Kolterman, a member of the commission, will provide an overview of the project and how the Civic Center will be changed when it is completed in this week's program.

Our Club, and many Rotarians, have supported Concordia University's Plum Creek Literacy Festival over the years.  Dylan Teut, festival director, will join us again to update us on the festival and give a preview of this fall's upcoming 28th installment during this week's program.

Join Seward Rotary Club for a showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie at 1 pm on February 19th at the Rivoli.  The movie is free but kids, and parents, attending are asked to bring two cans of food or two toiletry products to be donated to Blue Valley Community Action.

In this week's program, Sheriff Mike Vance will provide an overview of the county's drug interdiction program.

Jessica Brashear, counselor at St. John Lutheran School, and several students will talk about the school's Hope Squad, which seeks to shine the light of Jesus through their work of peer-to-peer suicide prevention and intervention. 

SHS Baseball Coach Brock Andersen will discuss the upcoming Bluejay season and talk about the field turf project at Plum Creek

Kurt von Kampen, conductor of Concordia's A Capella Choir, and members of the choir will recap their just completed East Coast tour and preview their homecoming concerts in Lincoln and Seward on March 17th.

Our fellow Rotarian, Greg Butcher, City Administrator, will provide a general update on the City's projects and plans for the coming 2024 construction season. 

Gary Bren of our Rotary District will talk about his bike ride to end polio later this year.

Respite is defined as "a short period of rest or relief from something difficult."  Rotarian Scott Bruick will share plans that his wife and he are putting in motion to build and operate a respite center here in Seward County for professional church workers.  Come learn more about respite centers, their benefits, and the need for respite in life.

Doyle Roth of Milford has been on numerous mission trips, including overseas for up to 3 weeks.  In this program, he'll share some of his experiences with our Club, reflecting on what these trips have meant to him and those he's served.

Japhath Hartmann, nephew of Rotarian Andy Hartmann, will share his observations and insights into the Nebraska Air National Guard from his deployments and service as a civil engineer during this program.

Dr. Elizabeth Grimpo, a member of the music faculty at Concordia University, will reflect on her years teaching students piano, offering her unique perspectives and insights as a renowned pianist, composer, and teacher during this program.

Eric Anderson is overseeing the Nebraska Department of Transportation's Highway 15 project through Seward as the project manager for Constructors, Inc., the general contractor on the project.  He will share his perspective on bidding projects, planning for them, and managing them while underway during this week's program.

State Sen. Jana Hughes (District 24) will review the Unicameral's 2024 session that concluded in April and, with rumors of a special session, ballot initiatives, and interim studies, preview what might happen before the next session in January.

Trinity Academic, a Lutheran school offering a classic liberal arts education, recently completed its first academic year.  Gabe Haley, president of the Trinity Academy board, will review the first year and share what lies ahead for the school

Ian Fiala will share his reflections from his recently completed mission trip with his fellow Conordia University students.

The wonderful craziness that is the 4th in Seward will be almost underway as we hear from this year's winners and runners up for Miss Independence and Mr. Firecracker and are reminded again of why we spend the 4th in Seward!

John Ricks, Nebraska State Tourism Director, will discuss the ongoing efforts to promote the Good Life to both Nebraskans and those who aren't fortunate enough to live here during this week's program.

Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home marks 150 years of caring service for grieving families in 2025.  The Perdues and Zabkas will reflect on this compassionate work during this week's program.

During this club meeting, we will develop our plans for our Club's centennial year.

Derek Engelbart, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, will update the Club on what is happening at Concordia University during this week's program.
